Digital Imaging X-Rays
X-rays are a staple in many aspects of the medical field – dental care included. The team at Scott J Owens DDS Cosmetic & Family Dentistry uses digital xrays to uncover even the most miniscule of dental issues. Through the use of x-rays, we’re able to catch dental problems quickly – saving our Farmington Hills, MI patients on costs and discomfort.
Digital vs. Traditional
Currently, dental practices rely on digital radiography techniques, as opposed to x-ray film. An electronic sensor snaps a digital image, which is easily viewed on a computer. Digital x-ray techniques lessen the already low radiation levels of previous x-rays by up to 90%. Digital imaging is absolutely essential to dental professionals, as it gives them the ability to diagnosis and correct patients’ dental problems sooner.
At Scott J Owens DDS Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, digital x-rays play a tremendous role in our preventative dental care procedures. Routine dental exams – while effective – don’t provide the same in-depth and detailed information as dental x-rays. We depend on x-rays to reveal any of the following conditions in our Farmington Hills patients:
- Malignant or benign tumors
- Bone deterioration
- Cysts and abscesses
- Developmental problems
- Tooth decay
- Positioning of teeth and roots
Safety and Frequency
In small doses, radiation exposure isn’t harmful, especially as it occurs naturally all around us. Digital x-ray techniques are safe, effective and fast. To provide effective treatment for new patients, we usually complete full-mouth x-rays right away. Typically, full-mouth x-rays are sufficient for up to five years, while bite-wing x-rays are taken during routine visits once or twice yearly.
