Restore Your Smile with Porcelain Bridges
If you’re missing a tooth, smiling may be uncomfortable for you. A missing tooth can impact your confidence in public. Dental bridges provide a simple, pain-free solution. Scott J Owens DDS Cosmetic & Family Dentistry offers timely restorative solutions to patients in Farmington Hills, MI and surrounding areas.
What are Bridges?
Dental bridges are used to replace teeth that were lost due to injuries or diseases. Comprised of safe, tooth-colored materials, fixed bridges include a pontic (replacement tooth) and two abutments (crowns). The abutments are attached to two surrounding teeth, and the pontic fills the empty space – improving smile aesthetics and preventing shifting, jaw disorders, and periodontal disease.
Cosmetic Dental Bridges
A cantilever dental bridge is a three-unit appliance, and is administered when teeth are located only on one side of the empty space. The pontic is attached to the two, side-by-side crowns, and covers the empty space completely. Often used to restore missing front teeth, a Maryland dental bridge is a composite bond consisting of a pontic, crowns, and metal bands coated with white resin.
How are Bridges Applied?
Our dentists can usually apply porcelain bridges for Farmington Hills patients within two visits. We’ll start by numbing the neighboring teeth – allowing us to clean and reduce them for the abutments. Afterward, we’ll take an impression of your teeth, and the dental lab will create your customized bridge. Usually, it takes about two weeks to fabricate permanent bridges – which are applied during the second visit. In the meantime, you’ll be fitted with a temporary acrylic resin bridge.
