Dental Implants Services
Farmington Hills, MI
Dental implants may sound like a frightening procedure, but ultimately, the procedure is a service commonly done in your dentist office. Dental implants are an alternate solution for those who don’t think bridges and crowns are right for them. During your consultation, Dr. Owens discusses the process in detail with you to ensure you understand what implants are and how they work.
The primary benefit of teeth implants is they’re inserted directly into the jawbone. Unlike other types of restorative appliances, implants don’t depend on neighboring teeth for support. They look and feel like natural teeth.

Types of Dental Implants
A dental implant procedure essentially replaces the natural tooth root with a titanium post that is implanted into the jaw by a reputable surgeon or periodontist recommended by Dr. Owens. After the surgery to place the posts prosthetic teeth constructed onsite are mounted onto the posts.
Two common types of implants considered safe by the American Dental Association (ADA) for use in the United States are:
- Sub-periosteal- This is the frame model that after the surgery is performed the frame adheres to the jaw bone allowing the posts to rise above the gums. The prosthetic teeth will then be mounted on them.
- Endosteal- Posts are surgically placed into the gums, and synthetic teeth are placed onto the posts to replicate the look of real teeth inside the mouth. The endosteal implant method is the most common dental implant procedure.
Skilled Care at Owens Cosmetic and Family Dentistry
If the tooth is damaged beyond what a dental crown can repair, a dental implant is a solution to consider. Dental implants replace single teeth by screwing an artificial tooth directly into the gums with titanium hardware. Implants, as compared to dentures, are permanent solutions to missing teeth.
If your dentures or bridges are uncomfortable, cause you pain and discomfort, or make you feel embarrassed in public, get the dental care you need from Dr. Scott J.
