Teeth Reshaping Treatment

Farmington Hills, MI

Everyone’s teeth are different. Sometimes, that’s a good thing. However, when your teeth are big or misshapen, that difference might not be something you cherish.

At Owens Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we understand the social stigma surrounding uneven and unusually shaped teeth. We know how it can affect the way others see you, and we offer a solution to give you perfectly shaped teeth that you can feel proud of showing off to the world.

Cosmetic Contouring

Teeth reshaping treatment, also called cosmetic contouring, involves gently grinding down the enamel of a tooth to reduce its size or change its shape. We use small dental scrapers and rotary files to remove tiny bits of material in a controlled manner.

We avoid removing too much enamel to keep from damaging the dentin and structurally compromising the tooth. By doing this, we ensure the process is entirely painless. The controlled reshaping also ensures that your tooth doesn’t become sensitive after the procedure and that it maintains enough strength to perform as it normally would.

Talk to Us About Your Goals

Everyone that comes to us for teeth reshaping does so with a different goal in mind. When you come to us, we want to hear what your vision is for teeth.

During the consultation session before we schedule your cosmetic contouring, we’ll talk you through the process and give you advice on what can and can’t be done. We can only remove a limited amount of enamel from each tooth, so the procedure may not be ideal for everyone.

If we decide that contouring is possible, we’ll discuss what we plan to do to your teeth. This helps us identify if our plan lines up with your expectations.

Post-Contouring Care

After we finish contouring your teeth, you may need to give them a little extra care. There is very little enamel on a tooth, so you will need to make sure that what remains stays strong and healthy. We’ll give you aftercare instructions to keep your contoured teeth looking and feeling great.
