Tooth loss can negatively impact your life in many ways. Not only can gaps in your smile make you feel self-conscious smiling in front of people, but missing teeth can also make it challenging to eat or speak properly.

However, there are many effective methods of replacing missing teeth, including full or partial dentures. Visit a dentist who offers a dentures service to restore your smile.
Types of dentures
There are two main varieties of dentures — partial and full. Partial dentures can replace one or several individual missing teeth in different locations within the mouth, filling in the gaps left behind by teeth that have been lost or extracted.
A partial denture is a gum-colored plate made of plastic, nylon, or metal, with false teeth attached to it. The plate sits in the mouth and fixes on to some of the patient’s natural teeth with a metal clasp to keep it secure.
For those who have lost most or all their natural teeth, a full denture comprises an entire arch of prosthetic teeth to fully restore the aesthetic look of your smile and your ability to talk and chew properly.
What to expect when you get dentures
If you opt for partial or full dentures, your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and gums and send it away to have your dentures made.
If you’re going for a full set of dentures and you have any natural teeth remaining, your dentist will extract them before fitting your dentures. However, the gums may change shape as they heal following tooth extraction.
While you wait for your gums to heal, you can wear “immediate” or trial dentures. After a few months, the gums will have healed fully, and your dentures can either be relined or remade to achieve the best possible fit.
