How Cosmetic Dentistry Can Remake Your Smile After Tooth Damage

jdand Cosmetic Dentistry

Damaged or missing teeth due to decay, trauma, or illness can impact your dental health and appearance, making you self-conscious about your smile.

Almost half of US adults above the age of 30 have signs of gum disease, which is the most common cause of tooth loss. Severe dental issues not only impact your smile but can also offset your bite alignment, make it difficult to eat, and affect your speech. Cosmetic dental work can help rebuild your smile, restore your confidence, and improve your quality of life.

At Owens Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we understand that no two smiles are the same, so we create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique dental care needs and revitalize your smile after tooth decay or damage.

Cosmetic Procedures

At our dental practice, we may use one or more cosmetic dentistry techniques to restore the look of your smile. At your consultation, we will discuss your smile makeover options which depend on the extent of tooth damage, the tooth’s location in your mouth, and your smile goals. Several restorative and cosmetic treatments can restore your oral health and give you the smile you desire.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are tooth-colored caps that cover an existing tooth. They are recommended for broken, cracked, chipped, or fractured teeth or for tooth decay that can’t be fixed with fillings.

Crowns help restore the integrity of your smile by restoring the appearance and function of a damaged tooth. We use porcelain crowns that replicate the look and texture of natural teeth. These crowns blend seamlessly with existing teeth, contributing to a fuller smile. All our crowns are custom-made, so they are shaped to fit each patient’s smile.

Dental Implants

Tooth decay and tooth loss require a tooth extraction, leaving gaps in your smile and potentially causing oral health complications like shifting teeth or bone resorption. Dr. Owens may recommend dental implants to restore your bite alignment and reduce the risk of jaw or facial degradation.

Dental implants consist of three core components: titanium posts, round metal abutments, and rubber O-rings. They are a permanent solution to tooth loss as the metal posts are surgically attached to the jawbone. Once these have been fitted, artificial teeth can be screwed onto the abutment, which is secured to the top of the posts. The rubber O-rings sit between the tooth and gum line for an improved fit.

Implants are a comfortable and permanent solution for damaged teeth. They are long-lasting, stable, easy to maintain, and only you and your dentist will know it’s not a natural tooth.

Cosmetic Dentistry Can Remake Your Smile

Veneers and LUMINEERS

Dental veneers are an effective way to remake your smile if you have minor tooth damage, like chips or discoloration. Porcelain veneers are thin shells that are applied directly onto the front of your teeth.

Our veneers require minimal tooth preparation before they are applied, giving you a quick and easy solution for a pearly white smile. After removing a small layer of enamel, your dentist takes impressions of your mouth to send to the off-site lab to use as a mold for the veneer. Once your veneers are ready, they are bonded in place. Porcelain veneers can last 10-15 years with the right care.

We also provide LUMINEERS that can be applied with no preparatory work. LUMINEERS are highly versatile and can even be placed over existing restorations such as crowns or bridgework. These are an excellent option if you’re self-conscious about slight imperfections in your smile.

Inlays and Onlays

When left untreated, cavities can increase in size, reaching deeper layers of your teeth and causing severe infection and tooth loss issues. Inlays and onlays are also known as partial crowns because they treat cavities that are too big for normal fillings.

Our inlays are pre-molded to fit the grooves of your tooth, ensuring they restore the structural integrity as well as the aesthetic of the affected tooth. We may recommend an onlay for a tooth with more extensive damage that affects the biting surface. Onlays differ from inlays in that they are fitted over the tooth’s cusp rather than into the spaces caused by damage.

Smile Makeover

At Owens Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, we offer a complete smile makeover. This involves a combination of restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedures to address numerous oral health issues and give you the smile of your dreams.

Whether it is a noninvasive dental bonding treatment to repair a chip or fill a minor gap, professional teeth whitening to give you a brighter smile, or replacing old amalgam fillings with metal-free tooth-colored ones for a seamless, beautiful smile, we can help makeover your smile boosting your self-confidence.
