Cosmetic Dental Bonding
in Birmingham, MI
Dental bonding is one of the most economical ways to make a big difference to your smile and is less invasive than other cosmetic procedures, such as porcelain veneers. Cosmetic dental bonding improves your smile without impacting the health of the teeth below.
Easily one of the least expensive of all cosmetic dental procedures, it is possible to complete in a single visit. Bonding uses a putty-like plastic resin to improve the appearance chipped, worn, discolored or misshapen teeth.
Cosmetic dental bonding can also be used to fill gaps between teeth or lengthen teeth.

The dental bonding process
Dental bonding is a non-invasive process requiring little or no preparation other than to slightly roughen the teeth before applying the resin. It is also rare for patients to need anesthesia.
The resin applied to the teeth is color matched by the dentist using a shade guide, so it blends in well and then molded into the required shape to drastically improve your smile. The basic structure of the tooth is left untouched, and the procedure is not uncomfortable.
The dentist shapes and molds the resin and then hardens it with ultraviolet light. Once hardened the dentist completes the process by carrying out last trims and shaping before polishing the material until shiny like the rest of the teeth. It takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete a single tooth.
Caring for your bonded teeth
Bonded teeth need the same care as your other teeth and are at risk of staining from tea, coffee and cigarettes in the same way as your natural teeth. In particular, it’s important to avoid those substances in the 48 hours following your procedure.
Though the resin used to bond your teeth is strong, it’s not as strong as your natural teeth, so it’s possible to chip your new smile. Avoid bad habits like chewing on pens and wear a mouth guard when engaging in contact sports.
The good news is that compared to veneers, bonded teeth are easily repaired. You should get many years out of your new teeth, but exactly how long will depend on your oral habits.
